The Articles of Incorporation of the Lisbon Historical Society were filed with the State of Ohio on August 6, 1938. The purposes for which said corporation was formed and continues to this date, is to discover, collect, acquire, hold and preserve whatever related to the history, biography, genealogy, and antiquities of the Village of Lisbon, Ohio and its surrounding territory and of the people dwelling therein, mentioned, by literary meetings, by publications and by other means.
In 1951, the Society acquired the Old Stone House, built by Christian Smith in 1805 as a tavern. It is said to be the oldest stone house in Ohio. The house was restored and opened for the Sesquicentennial celebration of Lisbon, 1803-1953, sponsored by the Lisbon Historical Society. The Old Erie Station was purchased, moved and restored for a display and storage area.
In 2003, the Village of Lisbon will celebrate the Bicentennial and the Society is busy planning a gala event. In addition to the celebration, the Society will have launched the Lisbon Historical Society Cyperspace Repository. This cyperspace repository includes "probate packets" (original wills and inventories) from the Columbiana County Probate Court dating from 1803 up to 1920, photographs, diaries, and related material, having been abstracted and indexed and added to the area's first cyperspace facility which can be accessed by anyone and at anytime.
The Lisbon Historical Society is accepting material from local governments for archiving. Contact the Society for more information.

Anyone can contribute a gift of money or research material and/or supplies to the Lisbon Historical Society in memory of an ancestor or deceased family member or in honor of a living person. The names of the honoree and the donor will be inscribed on the materials purchased with your donation. Just complete the form below and mail with your contribution. All contributions will be greatly appreciated.
